Partner 10 - University of Siegen - USIEGEN

The University of Siegen is a modern research university located in the border triangle of Nordrhein-Westfalen, Hessen and Rheinland-Pfalz. Currently, approximately 16.800 students are enrolled which are supported by over 1.500 scientific and administrative employees. In the beginning of 2011 the University of Siegen was restructured to promote its transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary character. Twelve departments were united in four theme-centred faculties. The chair of Simulation Techniques and Scientific Computing is part of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering.

The focus of the institute “Simulation Techniques and Scientific Computing (STS)http://www.mb.uni-siegen.de/sts/ Research focus is on simulations of large technical applications, in particular in the field of fluid dynamics. Our current main research topics are multi-physics and multi-scale problems as well as the efficient realization of such problems on high performance computers. The lab is almost fully the same as “Applied Supercomputing in Engineering” at GRS beforehand. With Prof. Roller taking the call to the professorship at University Siegen, the group of PhD students and researchers has nearly fully moved to Siegen with her. Dr. Bernsdorf will stay at GRS until end of 2013, and support the project from there.

Prof. Roller has a long history in European research projects like Prace, LarKC, BeInGrid as well as on national level, especially in the “Software for HPC” calls of the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) and the Priority Research Programm “Exascale Computing” of the German Research Foundation (DFG).
